Before any thing, it is necessary to know that a fire does not exist if one of these three elements is missing:
- The air because the fire inhales ( the combustive)
- The fuel (of which burn); ex: with some wood, with some essence)
- The energy of activation (of which light the fire; ex: a flame, a spark)

Description of a fire extinguisher
If you are a novice, you must know, before any thing, if there are several kinds of fire extinguishers. For it it is necessary know the style of fire which you meet.
There are 5 categories there:

Fires of class A	Fires of solids	Wooden fires, box, paper... ( All which produces some live charcoal)
Fires of class B	Fires of liquids and liquefiable solids	Fires of oil, fat, essence... All the elements which are established in oil
Fires of class C	Fires of gas	Fires of Calor gas, propane, hydrogen... One of the most dangerous fires towards the private individuals
Fires of class D	Fires of metals	Fires of sodium, magnesium... Exist only in companies working in the metal industry
Fires of electric origin	Frequent fires continuation(suite) has a short circuit or a bad installation of the paths of cable, to see too many electric grips connected with the same grip	Son's fires electric because they melted because of a too big difference between the current which consumes the household electrical device and the supplied current

Remark:

If you hesitate has to use a fire extinguisher, there is contact nothing grave but the firemen in the fastest to avoid having a fire of a dimension worse than that of the origin.
